Sustainability can best be defined as the use of resources in a way that meets the needs of the present without compromising the availability of resources for future generations. With an eye toward the future, the Zoo and Zoo Society are working to reduce our environmental footprint. Sustainability efforts at the Zoo include waste management, water and energy conservation, and a number of other “green” initiatives. We integrate these efforts throughout Zoo divisions, programs, and operations, and model best practices to engage the greater Cleveland community in behavioral changes that improve sustainability in the region.
